Faculty Profile

Dr. Songbai CHENG, is currently a professor at College of Nuclear Science and Technology, Harbin Engineering University. His research interests include thermal hydraulics, safety and severe accident analysis of advanced nuclear energy systems such as liquid metal cooled fast reactors (i.e. sodium-cooled fast reactor and lead-cooled fast reactor). In September 2011, he graduated from the Department of Nuclear Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan. After that, he served as the academic researcher at  Kyushu University (2011.10-2012.03), the doctoral researcher at the Liquid Metal Cooled Fast Reactor R&D Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) (2012.04-2015.03), and the associate professor at the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (IFCEN), Sun Yat-sen University (2015.06-2023.09). Regarding liquid metal cooled fast reactor, he has published about 80 SCI-indexed international journal papers as the first/corresponding author, applied/authorized about 10 national patents as the first inventor, and published 7 books as the first author in National Defense Industry Press, Tsinghua University Press and Springer International Press. He is currently a member of the expert Committee of several academic organizations such as China Energy Society, and a member of the Editorial Board (or Young Editorial board) of several international journals such as Frontiers in Energy Research, Frontiers in Nuclear Engineering, Energy Research Journal, International Journal of Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design and Technology (JANDT). He has also successfully held lots of academic special issues in many international journals such as Frontiers in Energy Research, Frontiers in Nuclear Engineering, JANDT, Processes, as well as Applied Science.
